Television Licences Set Up Us The Bomb

by on Dec.01, 2010, under Somebody Set Up Us The Bomb

Why the fuck are TV licences so bloody expensive? I’ve just had to fork out about £140 just because I have a television in my front room. I use it for playing Xbox 360, Mega Drive and watching DVDs. Television is shit! There’s nothing on it! It’s all shite! I hate “reality” TV. If you want reality, get off your fat arse and venture outside! Or even better, get a games console! I suppose on saturdays I use it for hearing the football results, and that’s about it.

Would you pay over £100 for something you wouldn't use? No probably not.

So don’t you think that £140 is a bit steep? I mean even if you don’t have an aerial to receive any kind of signal, you still have to pay it. I distinctly remember that being a huge expense when I was a student. It’s a lot of money for something which is rarely used by some people. And what the fuck does that pay for? Plus what if you don’t have a freeview box? Then you’re limited to a meagre 4 channels, all containing complete shit. But if you have more channels, i.e. you’re with SKY, you have to pay for a subscription. It’s almost like a hidden cost which people don’t budget for at all because it’s paying for absolutely nothing.

I remember somebody telling me that you pay the licence otherwise you have to pay for the actual broadcast and channels like the BBC would have to have adverts to cover the cost. So why the fuck do you get exponentially more adverts on Sky? It’s inconsistent. Plus I’ll occasionally turn on the TV just before I go to bed and what’s on there, some smug twat playing roulette? Or even later it’s fucking teletext!

In summation, TV licences are a complete waste of fucking, hard earned money. It’s almost like road tax, but I’m not getting started on that, not yet anyways…
