Double Dragon (1988)

by on Jan.25, 2011, under RetroLOLs

Dan and I take on the original Double Dragon on the Sega Master System, first released in 1988. Again, I don’t remember this game being this hard but nevertheless we got our arses kicked all around the block in this video! This was obviously the grandfather of Streets of Rage and Final Fight, but is starting to show its age. It was ambitious as shown by the 8-bit processor starting to lag when 3 or more characters are on screen at the same time but what I completely forgot was that this game is rock hard! Anyways, enjoy watching! Originally recorded back in 2011, remastered for YouTube now.

You play as Billy Lee, or his twin brother Jimmy (also known as Hammer and Spike in the supplementary materials for the American arcade release), as they fight their way into the turf of the Black Warriors gang in order to rescue Billy’s love interest, Marian. The player character has a repertoire of martial arts techniques which they can perform by using the joystick and three action buttons (kick, jump, and punch) individually or in combination. Techniques range from basic punches and kicks to more elaborate attacks such as throws and elbow strikes.
