Can’t turn off Out of Office (Outlook 2003)

by on Jan.14, 2014, under IT Support

One of the absolutely stupidest errors I’ve seen in a long time is the inability to turn off your Out of Office. Surely that’s just a switch yeah? Well when this (inevitably) fucks up you’ll get an error saying:

commandnotavailable

What a pile of crap. What fucking documentation? The worst part is that you probably didn’t change anything, yet your Out of Office has just decided to go AWOL.

Well it’s a surprisingly easy fix. Just navigate to Tools in the top bar and select: aboutoutlook from the options and you will get this window:

aboutoutlook2If you click on the bottom right button called “Disabled Items”, chances are you’ll find an AddIn called  outex.dll (outex.dll). Just highlight and click enable. Your Out of Office should be able to fuck off now.

You can alternatively remove in Regedit the You can also delete the registry key “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Resiliency” if you’re feeling particularly confident, but the above fix should sort out that stupid bloody Out of Office nonsense.
