Rock Band 3: The Secret Money Vacuum

by on Dec.01, 2010, under Gamer Rages

It’s me again and I’m bashing Rock Band 3 again. The other night I put in my code from Rock Band 2 to export the songs from it only to find out that not all the content transfers across to RB3. And my primary question is why the fuck not? You are forced to put in a code on the back of your game case as proof of purchase. Yes I have the code. I have proved that I own a legitimate copy of the game. Yet when it transfers across, not all the songs will go with it. It can’t be a licencing problem because it’s not transcending a medium from one to another. It’s the SAME format from the SAME company who paid for the SAME licence. So why did they decide that songs like “Battery” by Metallica and “Any Way You Want It” by Journey can’t transfer? This is another issue that I still haven’t seen pop up in any review for Rock Band 3 and for me it’s quite a big fucking deal.

Why charge extra for something you've already paid for? Bloody rip off

But here comes the absolute worst part, it charges 800 Microsoft points to transfer it. 800! That’s the equivalent of £6.83 to move something I have already paid for. Don’t get me wrong, Guitar Hero is also guilty of this too. Lets say you bought Guitar Hero World Tour, Guitar Hero 5, LEGO Rock Band, Green Day Rock Band, Rock Band 1, and Rock Band 2 all at full price because you’re a real big fan of the franchise. Lets say you wish to import said songs into the newest versions, being Rock Band 3 and Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock respectively. So that’s 6 games, costing 800 MS points each. That’s 4800MS points, which works out at about £41.00. Fourty one pounds of bullshit! I’ve paid for these fucking games, this transfer should be free! That’s bollocks! Guitar Hero’s transfer over to Warriors of Rock is even more bullshit because about half of the songs aren’t there! Yet you still have to pay 800MS a pop! It’s such a huge rip off and I personally don’t agree to having to pay for something you have already bought. Plus seeing that it’s not the total package, its like buying a car with three wheels.

I’ve had swipes at the DLC in general in both franchises in the past and I’m not going to dwell on that as I’m in danger of sounding like a stuck record, but I personally feel both franchises, especially Harmonix, have fallen out of touch with the community. But I guess they’ve made their millions, they don’t need to care anymore.
