Gearbox Set Up Us The Bomb

by on Oct.04, 2010, under Gamer Rages, Somebody Set Up Us The Bomb

Following on from my previous rant about those stupid tail end achievements in Borderlands, I decided to research this matter further to see if there was an easier way to get the few remaining achievements without totally relying on the element of luck.

While looking on the Borderlands Official Forum, I came across this post from Gearbox relating to their most recent release:

Borderlands DLC, Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution, is currently experiencing an achievement/trophy bug that applies to all platforms including XB360, PS3, and Steam.

The bug relates to the following 5 achievements
A: “What a party!”
B: “It’s so realistic”
C: “Bobble-trap”
D: “The Lubricator”
E: “Tourist”

They must be unlocked in this order. If the first of these five (5) achievements is unlocked in any other order, any achievements above that achievement on the list will not unlock normally.

Example 1:
If your first unlocked achievement is B: “It’s so realistic” (and you continue to then unlock C, D, and E) then you will be unable to unlock Achievement A: “What a party!” until the fix has been implemented.

Example 2:
If your first unlocked achievement from the list above happens to be achievement E: “Tourist” then you will be unable to unlock the rest of the achievements (A, B, C, or D) until the fix has been implemented.

We currently plan to have this bug corrected in the 1.50 Title Update. The fix will be retroactive so players can still obtain these item requirements for the achievements. Once the fix is released in the Title Update, they will be awarded with the achievements as long as they have obtained the requirements for each of these achievements beforehand. The 1.50 Title Update is currently planned for release in October. Once we have more specifics on a date, we will let the community know.

We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to have this corrected as soon as possible.

In the wrong fucking order? I don’t understand how you can actually implement this to fuck up. Surely for one achievement you have criteria x out of x and when that is fulfilled, *ding* achievement unlocked. So how come they are co-dependent on each other? It’s complete fucking thundercack. It was short sighted enough to have it based on random events in the first place but to actually have them intertwined with each other? I’m sorry but that’s just not good enough. Seeing that’s I’ve just got the 5th achievement this wil lactivate the glitch which means I now can’t get the other 3. So I’ve just gone and cockslapped myself.

While I’m on the subject of Borderlands where the fuck is the so called “free update” to raise the level cap? I’ve actually player through all 4 DLCs now and still no increase in experience cap. All the XP I earned has pretty much gone to the wall because I haven’t benefitted at all. Why would you release the cap increase AFTER the DLC comes out? I still have no update and the DLC came out last tuesday. It’s fucking stupid. I can only assume that they will release more DLC in the future. But the constant bumbling with the game will only push gamers away and I guess it’s bad timing that Halo Reach has just come out.
