Me Grimlock Want To Munch Metal!

Transformers: War For Cybertron was a very good game. Wasn’t perfect in terms of gameplay, but the stringent attention to detail of staying true to the G1 storyline was commendable. As I said in my review, this game is very good. But these little posts I’ve been putting on here seem to put the mockers on upcoming games. To my knowledge only one of those games which I’ve posted on is any good, but there is a very good reason why I’m announcing my eager anticipation of the sequel game Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, and it comes off the back of the last video I saw off Xbox Live previewing the progress of this game….

………..DINOBOTS………….

OMG you can play as Grimlock! RAAAWR!!!!

I’m not sure if I can contain my excitement about playing as the Dinobots. Grimlock was certainly one of my all time favourite Transformers due to his recklessness and strength, but certainly for me was the undoubted star of the 1986 movie. That and he was a Tyrannosaurus Rex. From the glimpses of gameplay I have witnessed you CAN transform into DinoMode and go berserk! There had better be fodder for me to do so! But it’s not just Grimlock, I’ve read that Slag, Snarl, Sludge and Swoop are all in the game too! Snarl was pretty cool because he had a cool massive sword and then transforms into a Stegosaurus! Arguably speaking according to the canon of G1 transformers, the Dinobots were actually made on Earth, so never really were on Cybertron, but one could argue that they did go into space in the 1986 movie so this must be before the events of the film. But I’m splitting hairs now.

Bruticus is immense!!

On the Decepticon side also is another huge bonus for me, which is a Gestalt team. Since Michael Bay royally screwed up the Constructicons/Devastator by turning him into a metal ape, my faith was wavering on CGI gestalt robots, until Fall of Cybertron announced the introduction of Bruticus! For those of you who aren’t Transformers geeks like me, Bruticus was formed when the Combaticons (Onslaught, Blast Off, Vortex, Brawl and Swindle; all army vehicles) merge together to form a giant destructive robot, in the cartoon solely controlled by Starscream. I’m not sure if you can actually control Bruticus or not or if he’s just a boss. Omega Supreme from the first game was as big and he was just a boss. But if a Gestalt robot isn’t enough, they have also implemented Metroplex into the game. Metroplex was a bloody great city which turned into a defence droid, so it looks like they’re going all out on this one.

T:WFC was a third person shooter, similar to the Gears of War paradigm cover system and while it got very hectic at times, I personally would have preferred it to be more of a sandbox style game like Prototype rather than Gears so allow maniacal destruction and aggression, which would be encompass the style of the Dinobots. I’m fully aware it will be like the previous game, and for that I look forward to going mental as a robot tyrannosaur. I’m not expecting earth shattering gameplay, but to play as Grimlock alone, will be worth the purchase.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is announced for release on 24th August 2012 in Europe
