…and it all started with a Big Bang!

The Big Bang Theory is good. Not the irrefutable scientific theorem, the television series. Not only is it actually funny unlike other American sit-coms like Two and a Half Men, which frankly isn’t  funny, Big Bang Theory is a really well written comedy and has got me hooked.

But the most important factor about it isn’t the comedy, it’s the decent portrayal of well, geeks. Now being classified as a geek/nerd/dork at school Big Bang Theory would have alleviated some of the stereotypical castigation which comes associated with the stigma of such genre classification. It brings the element of “cool” to being branded a geek by making light of it’s social awkwardness, yet somehow you get slightly more empathy with them, rather than the pillioring which happened in my school.

Yeah it’s not huge surprise to say that I didn’t like school and the whole ostracism for being slightly socially awkward among my peers is met with contempt from me, but the whole concept of actually feeling accepted even though you do like Warhammer 40,000, computers and science in general shouldn’t make you a social outcast, and I think Big Bang Theory does great in showing that there is a decent level of social acceptance even if you are a bit of a nerd, and I suppose I’m just wishing that this around in the media when I was at school.

I think Sheldon Cooper is a fantastic character and has allowed me to be more at ease with my tendencies to pertain towards circumlocution and…oh crap I’m doing it again…
