Not hugged enough as a child?

by on Jan.11, 2012, under Angry Rants

Today’s rant comes courtesy of all the f-wits out there who actually dedicate their time to creating computer viruses. While on face value there’s attention to detail such as all the Windows icons they put on in order to create the ruse that it is in fact genuine software it’s running, but the end product I’d imagine is just frustration for the user and a lengthy spell for people who can fix computers, such as myself, trying to eradicate the malicious software from the system.

It does in fact beg the question as to why would someone actually take the time to fabricate such an elaborate program in order to create such disorder. Do they themselves get some kind of personal gratification out of it? Probably, but lets look at it in a relative fashion.

  • People who do create software like this must have some kind of programming talent, otherwise the incoming installation of it would be routed by any decent anti-malware program worth it’s salt. Programs like this don’t just materialise out of nothing.
  • A program intended to frankly lock down a computer would have taken time to create, time which probably would have been best spent going out and meeting people, possibly dating, but ultimately being sociable with other people. So what you see yourself as a social outcast, doesn’t necessarily mean there’s no one out there just like you. You can find anything if you look hard enough.
  • Distributing software like this has become easier in the emergence of file sharing today, but still you have to have the program lingering or sometimes even hidden within other files in order to trick someone into installing it onto your system. This is quite a skill, trying to find something which people will want to download and have it seem genuine enough to con them into installing.

It would be too easy of me to typecast anyone who does create malware to be a socially inept virgin incapable of making friends and probably live the basement of their parents house until they’re about 40 years old, because that probably more of a paradigm of people who commit their entire life to play World of Warcraft. No these people are malicious, most likely bullied or seem to have a point to prove and try to exact vengeance on the world. We all hate the world at some point and I’m not even going to pretend to be some kind of Paragon of Justice by suggesting that I’ve never had a bad day and wanted to do something bad.

But that’s the part I don’t get, if you perceive that everyone hates you, why do something that everyone will hate you for? It’s almost like a self fulfilling prophecy.

Malware Bytes: fantastic piece of free software

Fortunately from Newtonian law we know that every action has a reaction, and for every person hell bent on creating havoc as some kind of messed up catharsis, there is someone willing to help. That’s why I have nothing but praise for people who create free support applications like the free version of AVG, Malware Bytes and the people at Lavasoft who made Ad-Aware. Personally for Malware Bytes has got me out of so many tough scrapes and fixed so many seemingly irreversible infections and come out the other side with the malware gone. Same as the free edition of AVG 2012. Don’t get me wrong, I’m personally not stupid enough to accidentally install an infection by downloading hooky software, but many people do.

Think of the internet as a playground, if there’s a kid handing out sweets and then punching other kids in the face soon after, just stay away from them. After all they’ll probably grow up to be a complete failure anyways.

So think of people like me who are investing their time to eradicate such malevolent programs to help out the majority of people who don’t have the skills to destroy this scourge of the technological world. Personally I will never understand why someone feels the need to waste millions of people’s time just because they’re a bit angry. Grow the f*ck up!
